SITA Airport Management will increase terminal operational efficiency to improve the passenger experience.
SITA has been selected by Nieuport Aviation Infrastructure Partners (Nieuport Aviation), the owner and operator of the passenger terminal at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ), to provide terminal management technology to efficiently manage its operations. With service to over 2.8 million passengers annually, Nieuport Aviation is dedicated to making investments that will result in an exceptional passenger experience at this award-winning airport.
Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, which is owned and operated by PortsToronto, continues to attract more and more leisure and business travelers who prefer its proximity to downtown, unique passenger service and choice of more than 20 destinations in Canada and the U.S., with connection opportunities to more than 80 international destinations via its airlines’ networks.
The introduction of SITA’s Airport Management software applications will allow Nieuport Aviation to better monitor, measure, and predict daily airport operations. The cloud-based business intelligence software is a comprehensive solution that integrates data from terminal operations, seasonal schedules, and real-time flight data, and will send information to the flight information display system (FIDS). The result will be improved flight and capacity management and reporting, as well as stand and gate assignment monitoring and management.
Neil Pakey, CEO, Nieuport Aviation, said:
“Ensuring a seamless daily passenger experience in the terminal is a priority for Nieuport Aviation. We believe SITA will provide us with better situational awareness, enable more proactive planning and allow us to manage the many moving parts at the airport including terminal gating, employees, equipment and passengers.”
Implementation of SITA’s technology is set to begin in the second quarter of 2019 and it will be deployed in a phased approach.
Diana Einterz, SITA President, Americas, said:
“Our technology will provide better visibility of the terminal operations, using predictive analytics based on data feeds from across Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. The result will be improved operations, such as reduced turnaround times, which will help the terminal, its airlines, and passengers.”
This is the latest investment by Nieuport Aviation to enhance the passenger experience in the terminal. Its $50 million terminal upgrade project completed in 2018 created more spacious passenger lounges, added new food, beverage and retail concessions, and a new gate. In recent years, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport has won a series of passenger-driven awards, including being named one of the top airports in North America in both the Airports Council International’s (ACI) Airport Service Quality Awards and Skytrax World Airport Awards. Billy Bishop Airport was also ranked as the fourth Best International Airport by Condé Nast Traveler in 2017.
